How do you know you're getting old?

When New Year's eve celebrations consists of some vodka, some coke a cheese platter and the TV Classics station screening of The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind (With occaision flashes to commercial tv just for the good bits of ROTK).

And since we're talking NYE, anyone got any good resolutions?

Mine are simple.

1. Get published.
2. Be more diligent with my journal.
3. Just for shits and giggles apply to be an extra on the Hobbit.

Gee, no one does Somewhere over the Rainbow like Judy.

See y'all next year.

Get out those whips and shackles [Dec. 15th, 2009|09:06 pm]

[mood | satisfied]

I never thought I would be able to say it but I think my wee hunter is actually going to be able get a dungeon achievement. Shitty DPS (516) and all. I actually had the highest DPS (73%) for the final boss in the Occulus Heroic.

I love 3.3's Dungeon Finder. Not only have I done all of the Northrend dungeons but three (Culling of Strathholme, Halls of Stone, Utgarde Pinnacle), I've even done 3 or 4 heroic level as well. All since DF came in.

And I actually prefer the cross realm groups as well. Whereas home realm groups with their stick up their arses elitists expect you to know exactly what you're doing, keep up and not fuck up, the cross realm PUG's I've found tend to be people like me (unable to previously buy their way into a instance group), and when there is a stuff up, they stop and explain what went wrong and how to change it when you try again.

Dungeon Finder? I likes it.

I'm ambivalent to both the man and the sport, but enough already media outlets around the world.

I don't know why it's all so shocking. He's a man with money, power and ostensibly more talent than was entirely necessary for one person. But you overlooked one small thing while you had your hands on his arse pushing him onto that huge pedestal. He has a penis.

Enough said.

It seems this one (Josie Brooklyn for those of you taking notes) was early and weeny, courtesy of a nasty dose of preeclampsia and gallstone pain.

BTW, don't read their website for birthing tips or you'll learn way more about vaginal births than you ever wanted to know.

Does this mean that the waterslide is closed?

So this is more for me than for y'all. But here are my girls on The Underbog.

Level 80 Dwarf Hunter

Level 66 Night Elf Druid

Level 60 Human Death Knight (She definately doesn't get enough love)

I've got a few more spread around over different realms, but these are my highest levels. My DK definately is the neglected soul.

My world is made of random [Dec. 12th, 2009|09:42 am]

[mood | groggy]
[music |Radio - Beecake]

Wow, look at this a post that doesn't involve fic mentions!

Random musings since my last post. Hold on my peoples, this could get confusing....

* [profile] o2muse gave birth to her third wee precious one, welcome to Arthur, hon and I'm so glad he finally decided to come out and meet you. You should go visit and take a look at him, he's gorgeous.

* My last post pondering that ludicrous new law they've passed in Uganda? Upon further reading; Do you know that it is legal in some countries for men to have sex with farm animals, but only if the animal is female. It's okay for bestiality, just not homosexual bestiality? Can anyone else see a problem with that? Or is it just me?

* It's been hot here, damned hot {cue reference to Good Morning, Vietnam memories - damn are any of you old enough to remember that?}. It was 38 deg C in my living room the other day, I have not been game to look at the thermometer since. It's been so hot I've had occaision to think I had peed my pants and not known, but no it was just torrents of sweat, either that or my knees are urinating. Wow, that was TMI.

* Much love is being had at the moment for Beecake's debut album. Thanks again be to [personal profile] divinemadam for the delivery of said album. I must say the new arrangments of some of the songs has completely redeemed them (that would be the song not the band - the boys need no redemption) for me. Rip It Up was not one I liked and now it's close to my favourite.

* On the topic of Beecake, I must say, I will always adore Billy, but I have a guilty confession to make. Drummers are totes swoonworthy. Since I was old enough to realise that Rock Gods are delicious, and worked out for myself that lead singers are more often than not precious little flowers (yes Simon Le Bon I am looking at you), I made another startling discovery, Drummers are scrumptious (Roger Taylor (both of them), Jon Keeble, Jon Moss, Merrick, Terry Lee Miall(actually 5 points and eternal love to those of you who know who the last two are without Googling) need I continue?). John Crawford, you just know I'm talking about you now don't you?

* On the subject of Music and all things Scottish, take a look here, promise you won't be disappointed.

* WoW. Where do I start? I usually don't like the patches but I am filled with Love, Love, Love for patch 3.3. My 80 hunter couldn't buy her way into dungeons, because stick-up-their-arse, filled with self importance 80's (Can you sense my displeasure and lack of love?) didn't like her non epic gear, her not so hot DPS (I ask you how can you improve without the dungeons?) but with the new Dungeon Finder she is gathering a nice selection of epic gear and has multiplied her hit rating by 5. And my adorable little Nelf Druid has levelled twice and is learning much about healing.

* My slashababy fic has developed a mind of it's own and is coming along quite nicely, [personal profile] celtprincess13, you should be very, very scared but you will have it soon to worketh your magic.

* Got organised early this year so I apologise to anyone who got their christmas card really early, but tis better than really late. No?

* Have been baking lots, made christmas cakes, plum puddings, rum balls, apricot balls, white christmas, truffles, Xmas ice cream cakes and even orange & clove pomanders. Christmas? Bring it on, dudes!

* For those of us who have disdain for the Twihard Twainweck, I bring something that will amuse you, have this and enjoy.

I think that could be all, for those of you who have perservered and even kept up, please feel free to return to your regular programming. At times, my thought processes can be....intricate.

Question for US bakers [Nov. 27th, 2009|12:09 am]
[Tags|]

I've got an American recipe I've been fiddling with recently and while its been working out okay, it's not quite right. The only thing I can put it down to is the measurement of one ingredient.

I'm supposed to add one stick of butter, but i'm guessing that one stick of Aussie butter isn't the same amount as one stick of american butter.

My question for you? Can someone tell me what is the standard size of a stick of butter over there?

Vampiric Questions [Nov. 7th, 2009|02:32 pm]
Two questions for the readers of Vampire fic amongst you (Guess who's nano fic involves Vampires?).

Firstly in vampiric folklore is the transformation from human to vampire more consistent with the Buffy/Angel portrayal or the Twihard trainwreck?

Secondly after a vampire has sired another vamp, what is the relationship generally considered to be more parent/child or consistent with lovers, or does it depend on the sire and the situation?

You would have to wonder why someone who's only experience with Vamps is Buffy would choose such a topic for Nano wouldn't you?

Yes I know that there is a much greater risk of being killed in a car crash than there is being bitten by a shark, but doesn't this give you some pause before you dip your pinkies into the ocean.

Besides, if we all swum to work instead of driving perhaps those statistics would be different.

That sucker is in my backyard, the ocean has been doing jsut fine without me since 1978 I don't see the situation changing anytime soon.

Dis, Dat & T'other [Oct. 31st, 2009|10:27 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

So it's not October anymore? When did that happen? Whoever stole it should give it back immediately, I not done with it.

Lots to tell, nothing of real import so skip it if you need to.

* Bad month all round for health. I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder connected to my thyroid function. New medication has been affecting my moods, my sleep, my concentration, but generally am feeling better for it so go figure. And, WTF, I have suddenly become lactose tolerant.

* My sister had two weeks off work while her Doc ran tests and decided that she has a huge vitamin D deficiency and an over affection for paracetamol.

* Mum's diabetes is again out of control. Welcome to summer and stonefruit and melons and my mother the fruit bat.

* Mum's partner is in hospital again so I'm the taxi for mum back and forth to the hospital twice daily.

* I knew the minute I set myself a posting schedule I was going to fall off the wagon, but I'm almost sorted and will resume regular posting asap.

* I owe a few of you comments on my Dominic poll. I have lots to say and I didn't want to short change anyone by rushing my answers when I didn't have time to respond properly. I do have one thing to say first of all though. I have noticed that some people are getting their hackles up at people tipping shite on Dominic. That wasn't the intention of my poll at all.

I have deliberately taken a step back from fandom over the last year. It's also no secret that I'm a Billy fan first and foremost and that I have been less than fanly with Dominic in recent years. Why? It's my choice and my opinions and i'm not going to start a shitfight in my own journal by voicing my reasons. However, over the last couple of months I have noticed some less than complimentary/fanly comments and postings from people I considered to be diehard Dom fans and wondered what was afoot in fandom.

Anticipate my thoughts to poll comments sooner rather than later.

* And on the subject of fandom, thank you's, first born children and big sloppy kisses should be anticipated by [info - personal] divinemadam for the Beecake albums that she collected for [info - personal] alassenya and myself at the Beecake gigs this month.

* Beecake, where does one start, how incredibly brilliant is that album. Songs that were so familiar are new and fresh again. I have all new favourites again, and "Rip It Up" was so not a favourite and now I adore it. Anyone who says the band is a vanity project needs to sit down and listen. There may well be a post re Beecake music in my future. Yes you should be afeared.

* Am happily ensconsed in World of Warcraft. My hunter is not well geared and her DPS sucks but I'm working on it. My baby Druid is working so much better for me she's dual specced resto/balance so she should be pretty versatile I hope. [info - personal] vensre, what would I have to do to coax you to The Underbog?

* Like I don't have enough to do, I've signed up for Nanowrimo, but i don't know how I'm going to fit that in but if ithappens it happens.

/ramble out.

What makes a good read for you? [Oct. 17th, 2009|12:48 am]
[Tags|]

Here's a question for the voracious readers I know inhabite my friends.

Today I was reading a book I picked up at a discount book store, it's nothing special, it was entertaining but not even particularly well written, although far better than a certain bloodsucker series that is a phenomenon which I can't understand.

That is until i read one passage, and that passage moved me to tears and took me into the story in a way that truly good books do.

Is that what makes a good story? Or is it something else entirely. If I truly enjoy a story, it weaves me into the fabric of the tale, almost like I'm an extra on a film set watching the story unfold. The grammar no longer matters, the spelling even fades out. In fact I enjoy it even more if the characters words are phonetic for their nationalities. It's all about the characters and the resolution of their lives and their loves.

Is it like that for all of you?

Has it really been ten years? [Oct. 12th, 2009|10:33 am]
[Tags|]

Ten years is a long time, but it seems like only yesterday.

I may not love all members of the fellowship with teh same degree of affection, but without any single cast member, particularly the fellowship itself the results would not have been the same. So to all of them thanks for what you have given us.

What other ensemble cast film can boast the same enduring friendships and experiences. For that alone the one trilogy is special.
